Power Move terms and conditions
These terms and conditions (the Terms) apply to our ‘Power Move’ promotion (Power Move). Please read these Terms carefully. These Terms are supplemental to, and do not replace, our Core Energy Supply Terms and Conditions (Core Terms) or any other terms which may apply to your OVO Energy plan.
The Terms may also be supplemented from time to time with specific rules relating to individual Power Move challenges (Individual Power Move Challenge Rules). By entering into a specific Power Move Challenge, you are agreeing to be bound by the Individual Power Move Challenge Rules.
All defined terms in the Core Terms will have the same meaning when used in these terms unless otherwise stated.
Power Move is a series of challenges that reward you for shifting your electricity use to greener times. These challenges will be set by OVO Energy based on what time of year it is, how the seasons affect energy usage and the knock-on environmental impact.
Each Power Move challenge will have its own:
- Challenge type
- Monthly Target Levels
- Reward value (associated with reaching an individual level)
- Timeslot
The challenge is to use as little non-essential electricity as possible during peak times. And you'll be rewarded depending on what level you reach.
For some challenges, the energy you use on the weekends will count as off-peak usage. This will be specified in the Individual Power Move Challenge Rules.
By opting into a specific Power Move challenge, you‘re agreeing to the Individual Power Move Challenge Rules.
There are two types of Power Move challenges:
Peak Move - we’ll ask you to shift your non-essential electricity use out of peak times (typically between 4pm to 7pm, but we’ll let you know before the Power Move Challenge commences)
Green Move - we’ll ask you to shift your non-essential electricity use to a specified time period during the day, for example when the grid is experiencing lower demand and your electricity is likely to be greener.
During each Power Move challenge there’ll be a set of monthly targets levels (Monthly Target Levels).
Each target will be linked to an individual reward value. The lower your monthly usage (%) is during peak times, the more reward you’ll receive. The maximum you could earn will be stated in that month's challenge information.
These targets will stay the same for the length of the challenge.
For Peak Move challenges, you will be asked to reduce your peak time electricity usage.
For Green Move challenges, this target will be a target percentage of your daily energy use which you will need to shift to a greener time of day. For example, you might be challenged to shift 20% of your daily electricity use to between 5.30am and 7.30am.
The Monthly Target Levels will be different for each Power Move challenge. We’ll know if you’ve hit one of the target levels based on your smart meter data.
Then you’ll get energy credit that relates to the reward value set for that Power Move challenge. For more information on how we calculate the Monthly Target Levels, and use your smart meter data to work out if you’ve hit it or not, please see our FAQs.
You can decide which Power Move challenges you’d like to participate in.
You can sign up to Power Move challenges at any time.
When each Power Move Challenge ends, you will need to opt in to the next challenge. For example if you’re signed up to the October challenge, you’ll have to opt into the next challenge and won’t be automatically opted in.
You can opt out at any time through your OVO app as long as you're a Beyond member.
How can I get Power Move?
Power Move is available to all OVO Energy customers who meet the eligibility criteria below.
You can only opt into Power Move via Beyond, so will need to make sure you’ve downloaded the app and completed your Beyond set up.
You can sign up to Power Move at any time and your access to Power Move will start the day that you sign up. If you sign up part way through the month of any challenge, your reward will be prorated for that first month based on the date you signed up.

(the Eligibility Criteria)
2.2 Unfortunately there may be some types of meters that won’t work with Power Move. If you have an ineligible meter you won’t be able to join Power Move.
2.3 If at any time you fail to meet the Eligibility Criteria, including no longer opting in to half-hourly meter readings, half-hourly settlements, or cancel your direct debit, then we reserve the right to terminate your participation in Power Move and you will not receive any further Power Move energy credit.
How your reward is paid
3.1 If you hit one of the Monthly Target Levels we’ll reward you with energy credit each month. The amount of credit you get will be set by the Individual Power Move challenge rules. This will be applied as credit to your energy account the following month. For example, if you hit one of the monthly targets for November, you’ll get the credit in December.
3.2 If you signed up to Power Move Challenge at any point during a challenge, your first monthly credit will be pro rata based on the date you signed up for that Power Move Challenge.
3.3 There is no cash alternative. If you pay by Direct Debit, the Direct Debit amount you pay per month will not change, the energy credit will show as a separate line item on your bill. You won’t be able to withdraw the credit from your energy account to your bank account.
3.4 If your account has a negative balance, any reward paid will be used to pay off any outstanding monies owing to OVO.
What happens if I don’t hit the target?
3.5 You won't be eligible to receive a reward if you don't meet one of the specific Monthly Target Levels for that Power Move challenge. You can still get credit if you meet the monthly target, if you didn't meet it the month before. So there may be some months you get credit and some that you don't.
If you want to leave Power Move
4.1 You can opt out of Power Move at any time through the Power Move section in the OVO app. If you wish to stop receiving Power Move related emails, you'll need to opt out of the Power Move challenge. You’ll be able to rejoin Power Move at any time by opting in through Beyond.
If you switch away
4.2 You’re free to switch to another energy supplier at any time (unless you owe us money, in which case we may stop your switch until the money is paid). If you switch to another energy supplier at any point during a Power Move challenge, you won't be eligible to receive the energy credit for that Power Move Challenge. You will find further information about switching away from OVO in our Core Terms.
If you move home
4.3 As long as you stay with OVO Energy, you’ll be able to opt in again to Power Move with your new account details, on Beyond, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria. You’ll be able to do this at any point during the challenge.
The reward for your first month in the new home will take into account the date you opted in. If you sign up part way through the month of any challenge, your reward will be prorated for that first month based on the date you signed up.
When we can terminate your participation in Power Move
4.4 If you don’t comply with these Terms, any Individual Power Move challenge rules or our Core Terms, including where you don’t pay your bills or if you no longer meet any of our Eligibility Criteria, we reserve the right to end your participation in Power Move. This would happen with immediate effect and you will no longer be eligible to receive the energy credit for any Power Move Challenge you are opted into.
We can make changes to these Terms and Power Move at any time. These changes may include, but are not limited to, changing the amount of energy credit you can earn, changing or withdrawing Power Move, extending or reducing the time the Power Move is available for. Where we make any changes that affect you, we’ll give you reasonable notice. We reserve the right to refuse access to Power Move whenever we choose, even where you meet the Eligibility Criteria.
If you have any questions about Power Move, please get in touch with us via webchat.
