Power Move terms and conditions
These terms and conditions (the Terms) apply to ‘Power Move’. Please read these Terms carefully. These Terms are supplemental to, and do not replace, our Core Energy Supply Terms and Conditions (Core Terms) or any other terms which may apply to your OVO Energy plan.
All defined terms in the Core Terms will have the same meaning when used in these terms unless otherwise stated.
1.1. With Power Move you can earn chances to win amazing prizes by using as little non-essential electricity as possible during peak times. Customers can earn entries into a monthly prize draw where you could win prizes including up to a year’s free energy.
1.2 You can begin earning entries by shifting your electricity use from 1st February 2025. The first prize draw will take place in March. Prize draws for the relevant month will always take place the following month, so for example the prize draw for April’s entries will take place in May and so on. The number and types of prizes may vary per month. You can find out what prizes are available at the beginning of each month via the OVO app or by visiting our website.
2.1 In order to be entered into the monthly prize draw, each month you’ll need to shift your non-essential electricity use out of peak time (from 5pm to 7pm) every weekday, Monday to Friday. The electricity you use on the weekends will also count as off-peak usage.
2.2 If you can use 15% or less of your total electricity use during these Peak Times, you'll earn entries into a prize draw for that month. The number of entries you earn will depend on your end of month Peak Time usage percentage (see section 2.3 below).
How we calculate your number of entries
2.3 If you have a Peak Time electricity usage of 15% or less at the end of the month, you will earn entries for the prize draw. The amount of entries earned will correspond with your end-of-month Peak Time electricity use percentage as follows:
Percentage of electricity used during Peak Times
- 0 to 1% = 15 entries
- 1.01 to 2% = 14 entries
- 2.01 to 3% = 13 entries
- 3.01 to 4% = 12 entries
- 4.01 to 5% = 11 entries
- 5.01 to 6% = 10 entries
- 6.01 to 7% = 9 entries
- 7.01 to 8% = 8 entries
- 8.01 to 9% = 7 entries
- 9.01 to 10% = 6 entries
- 10.01 to 11% = 5 entries
- 11.01 to 12% = 4 entries
- 12.01 to 13% = 3 entries
- 13.01 to 14% = 2 entries
- 14.01% to 15% = 1 entry
- 15.01% or above = 0 entries
If there are any changes to the target levels, and corresponding entry amounts, we’ll let you know. Target levels and corresponding entry amounts will also always be available in the Power Move section of your OVO app.
3.1 Power Move is available to all OVO customers who meet the eligibility criteria below. You can only opt into Power Move via Beyond, so you’ll need to make sure you’ve downloaded the app and completed your Beyond set up. You can sign up to Power Move at any time, and your access to Power Move will start the day that you sign up. You can opt out at any time through your OVO app.
3.2 To be eligible for Power Move you’ll need to :
- be an OVO customer and have your energy supplied by us;
- have downloaded the OVO app and signed up to Beyond;
- have a working electricity smart meter;
- have a credit meter;
- have a single rate tariff only (e.g. not Economy 7 or Economy 10);
- have an active Direct Debit;
- opted into half-hourly meter reads for billing (you can do this when you join);
- opted into half-hourly meter reads for settlement (you can do this when you join);
- have an active email address; and
- comply at all times with these Terms and our Core Terms.
(Eligibility Criteria)
Charge Anytime, Battery Boost or Heat Pump Plus customers are eligible to join Power Move.
3.3 Unfortunately there may be some types of meters and tariffs that won’t work with Power Move. If you have an ineligible meter or tariff you won’t be able to join Power Move.
3.4 If at any time you fail to meet the Eligibility Criteria, including no longer opting in to half-hourly meter readings, half-hourly settlements, or cancel your direct debit, then we reserve the right to end your participation in Power Move. And you won’t receive any further Power Move draw entries.
The Prize Draw
4.1 After each month ends, the number of entries you’ve earned will be automatically entered into a prize draw, along with all the entries of other customers who’ve earned entries in that month. There will be a minimum of 10,000 winners per month. A minimum of 5 customers per month will win up to a year’s worth of free energy. If you are a winner you will be notified in the Power Move section of the app. The prize draw is free to enter. The prize draw is undertaken by a random computer process. You can only win 1 prize per month.
If you join after the 1st of each month
4.2 If you opted into the challenge after it began, you’ll earn a pro-rated number of entries for the amount of time you've been on Power Move. For example if you earn 12 entries at the end of the month but joined 1 week into a 4 week month, you’d receive 9 entries into the prize draw.
The Prizes
4.3 Prize values and number of prizes can vary each month. Prize amounts will always be available in the Power Move section of your OVO app and on ovoenergy.com/power-move at the beginning of each new month.
£10 Energy Credit
4.4 Until 31st May 2025, any customer who has peak usage of less than 2.00% (1.99% or below) will also receive £10 energy bill credit, as well as their prize draw entries.
If you win up to a year’s free energy
4.5 A year’s free energy is set at a maximum bill credit of £2,000. A year’s free energy is calculated in line with Ofgem’s average Energy Price Cap for January-March 2025 for customers paying by Direct Debit, which is worked out based on a 2-3 bedroom house, with 2 to 3 occupants using 11,500 kWh gas and 2,700 kWh electricity per year. Credit may not equal one year’s free energy if you are a higher than average user or if the price cap were to increase beyond current forecasts. We’ll pay it as energy bill credit in 12 monthly instalments. For example, if you win a year's free energy in January, the credit would be applied to your bill in February and each following month up to the last payment in January the following year.
4.6 If you leave OVO before your final credit payment, we won't be able to make any remaining prize payments.
How your prize is paid
4.7 If you win a prize following the prize draw at the end of the month, this will be applied to your energy bill as bill credit.
4.8 All monthly winners will have their bill credit applied the following month. For example, if you earn entries and a prize for February, you’ll receive your credit in March.
4.9 There’s no cash alternative. If you pay by Direct Debit, the Direct Debit amount you pay per month won’t change. The energy credit will show as a separate line item on your bill. You won’t be able to withdraw the credit from your energy account to your bank account.
4.10 If your account has a negative balance, any credit paid will be used to pay off any outstanding money owed.
4.11 If you leave us before your credit is paid you will not receive your credit.
What happens if I don’t have peak usage below 15%?
4.12 You won't be eligible to receive any entries into the prize draw if your Peak Time usage is 15.01% or above. If you don’t earn any entries in the month, you can still earn entries the following month if your Peak Time usage for that month is below the 15% target.
4.13 For more information on how how we calculate your Peak Time use and use your smart meter data to work out if you’ve hit it or not, please see our FAQs.
What happens if we can’t receive readings from your meter?
4.14 Your smart meter needs to work and be connected to the internet to take part.
4.15 We need at least 14 weekday readings to work out your monthly result. If technical issues stop us from getting enough readings for more than 7 days, we may remove you from Power Move.
4.16 If we’re unable to read your smart meter data for 48 hours after that specific day then that day won’t count towards your Power Move Target. That’s because we won’t have the data we need to correctly calculate your peak electricity usage.
If you want to leave Power Move
5.1 You can opt out of Power Move at any time through the Power Move section in the OVO app. If you’d like to stop receiving Power Move related emails, you'll need to opt out of Power Move. You’ll be able to rejoin Power Move at any time by opting in through Beyond.
If you switch away
5.2 You’re free to switch to another energy supplier at any time (unless you owe us money, in which case we may stop your switch until the money is paid). If you switch to another energy supplier at any point whilst you’re signed up to Power Move, you won't be eligible to receive the entries earned or any prizes won. You’ll find more information about switching away from OVO in our Core Terms.
If you move home
5.3 As long as you stay with OVO, you’ll be able to opt in again to Power Move with your new account details, on Beyond, provided you still meet the eligibility criteria. You’ll be able to do this at any point during the challenge.
5.4 The entries for your first month in the new home will take into account the date you opted in. For example, if you earn 12 entries at the end of the month but move into the new home and register for Power Move 1 week into a 4 week month, you’d receive 9 entries into the prize draw.
If you move to a multi-rate tariff
5.5 If you move to a multi-rate tariff, such as Economy 7 or Economy 10, we reserve the right to remove you from Power Move, and you’ll be unable to re-join.
If you opt out of Half Hourly Readings (HHR)
5.6 To calculate your usage during peak times, we need to be able to see your usage at half hourly intervals. If you opt out of half hourly readings, we’re unable to correctly calculate your % of peak usage and any entries earned, and reserve the right to remove you from Power Move.
When we can end your participation in Power Move
5.7 If you don’t comply with these Terms or our Core Terms, including where you don’t pay your bills or if you no longer meet any of our Eligibility Criteria, we reserve the right to end your participation in Power Move. This would happen with immediate effect and you won’t be eligible to receive the entries or prizes for Power Move.
6.1 We can make changes to these Terms and Power Move at any time. These changes may include, but are not limited to, changing the amount of entries you can earn, the prizes you can win, changing or withdrawing Power Move, extending or reducing the time Power Move is available for.
6.2 Where we make any changes that affect you, we’ll give you reasonable notice. We reserve the right to refuse access to Power Move whenever we choose, even where you meet the Eligibility Criteria.
7.1 If you have any questions about Power Move, please get in touch with us.
7.2 You can see how fellow Power Movers are meeting their targets, or find answers to your own questions, on our Power Move forum, where both customers and OVO moderators can help you.

It’s your responsibility to make sure your email address is kept up to date in order to receive our emails. If you need to amend your email address, you can do so by changing it in your online account.
8.2 We may share your contact details (name and email address) with our trusted third-party research agency partners, as mentioned in our Privacy Policy so that they can contact you for feedback on your experience of Power Move.
