How to get your free miles

Check you're eligible
Whether you're an OVO customer or not, you can check your eligibility for our free miles offer and Charge Anytime.
Step 2
Get your promo code
You can find your promo code in the Volvo Cars app, or in an email if you’ve recently switched to OVO. You can use it to claim your miles when you add Charge Anytime.
Step 3
Connect your accounts
Open your Volvo Cars app and follow the instructions to connect your OVO account.
Step 4
Start smart charging
Schedule your smart charge directly in your Volvo Cars app. We'll work out the greenest time to charge within the hours you've set.3
Step 5
Get credit in your account
We'll add Charge Anytime credit into your OVO account every month to reflect the 7p per kWh rate. Plus you'll get £50 credit in the first month to cover your free miles.

You'll need to be a new Charge Anytime customer and have an eligible Volvo EV: XC40 Recharge Pure Electric, C40 Recharge Pure Electric, EX40 or EC40.

- Go to your Volvo Cars app and into your Charging section. If you have an eligible vehicle, you should see a link to access this offer.
- You’ll be given a promo code.
- Add Charge Anytime to your account, and add this promo code as you sign up.
- Link your Volvo and OVO accounts in the Volvo Cars app. Start smart charging for 7p per kWh.
- We’ll credit you £50 within 30 days of you claiming your offer and linking your accounts.
- Click on the Charge Anytime banner in the Volvo Cars app
- Click 'I'm an OVO customer'
- Click 'I've already added it’ in the Charge Anytime section
- Click 'Link accounts'
- Log in to your OVO account
- Read the terms and click the box to say you give your permission, then click ‘continue’
And there you go – your accounts are now linked.
Smart charging is when you charge your EV at home. The smart bit comes from our intelligent tech making sure your vehicle is charged when the grid is greenest, within the time you need it charged by. You set this time through the app. Smart charging with Charge Anytime also unlocks the super-low charging rate of 7p per kWh.
Charging this way helps move the UK energy system towards a smarter, greener way of using energy. If more people use energy when the grid is greener, together we can rely less on fossil fuels to keep power flowing at peak times.
For your energy supply and online account to be fully set up, it can take 4 to 6 weeks – but it could be quicker than that. As soon as you’ve switched over, we’ll send you an email with all the information you need to get set up with Charge Anytime and unlock your free miles.
The 2,700 free miles are based on the Volvo EC40 Single Motor Extended Range driving 3.8 miles per kWh. This works out at 714 free kWhs. Actual sum: 2,714 miles based on WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure).
Our Charge Anytime rate is 7p per kWh when smart charging, which equals £50 free credit. The actual mileage you get for £50 will vary depending on your EV model, driving style, and other external factors.
At the end of each month, we work out how much energy you've used to smart charge your car. We'll use this info to credit your energy account in the first week of the next month, with the right amount to make your charging cost 7p per kWh.
For example:
- The Charge Anytime rate is 7p per kWh. And let’s say your standard electricity rate is 26p per kWh.
- We’ll credit you 19p for each kWh you’ve used to smart charge your EV, to make your smart charging rate 7p.
- This means if you use 100 kWh of energy smart charging your EV, you’ll get £19 in credit back on your bill.
It’ll appear on your monthly OVO energy bill under the heading 'Charge Anytime Credit'. We add this credit into your account in the first week of every month.
The credit shown on your bill will be for the electricity you’ve used for smart charging your EV the previous month. So, in the first week of September, we’ll add your credit for August, and so on.
You can override your smart charging schedule at any time. This lets you top up quickly when you need to, at your standard home electricity rate.
The next time you charge, you’ll automatically go back to your smart charging schedule.

3 Actual sum is £542.50 When you add Charge Anytime to your plan, your home energy rate will stay the same, but the energy consumed by your EV will be charged at an effective rate of 7p per kWh when EV smart charging (thanks to payment of your Charge Anytime charging credit).
The £542.50 saving is based on an average Charge Anytime customer using 3100kWh a year to charge their EV using the Charge Anytime add on. The Charge Anytime rate on 01/10/2024 is 7p per kWh for Charge Anytime charging compared to the OVO’s UK average SVT rate of 24.5p per kWh. Actual savings will vary depending on vehicle efficiency, driving style, EV charging usage and the cost per kWh of your standard home energy tariff.
4 Our smart tech aims to charge your car when the grid has more renewable energy in it, within the time you’ve set. Meaning it’s less likely your EV will be charged by energy from fossil fuels.
