OVO Pay As You Go meter guides

Here’s a series of guides for different types of Pay As You Go meter. Take a look through to find the one that you have in your home. 

The type of meter you have should be written on the meter. If you need some help, get in touch by using the chat option on this webpage, or call us on 0330 175 9669 (8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, or 9am to 5pm on weekends). 

These guides cover everything from topping up and reconnecting your meter, to activating emergency credit, and fixing common issues.

If you’ve got an Aclara meter…

How to reconnect an Aclara meter: 

You can reconnect the meter once you’ve topped up enough to bring your balance above £0. Before you reconnect, please switch off all the appliances in your house. 

Electricity meter

Once you’ve topped up, go to your meter and press and hold buttons “A” and “B” for up to 10 seconds. You should hear a click when the power supply is back on.

Gas meter

Once you’ve topped up, press any button on your gas meter. Your meter will run some safety checks, after which your power will return.

How to reconnect an Elster meter:  

You can reconnect your meter once you top up enough to bring your balance above £0. Before you reconnect, please switch off all appliances. 

Electricity meter

Once you’ve topped up, the relay (shown in the red circle) will start to flash. Press the middle button to reconnect your supply.

Gas meter

Once you’ve topped up, press the middle button. You'll see the message 'Check if appliances off, hold for gas' (pictured below).

Hold down the middle button. The meter will run a gas flow check and then reconnect.

How to reconnect your Landis and Gyr meter

You can reconnect your meter once you top up enough to bring your balance above £0. Before you reconnect, please switch off all appliances. 

Electricity meter

  • Once the meter has been topped up, press button “A” for the main menu.

  • Press button “A” again to enter “Prepayment”.

  • Press button “B” to go to “Enable supply”.

  • Press and hold button “B” to re-enable supply.

Gas meter

  • Once you’ve topped up and you see “Credit ARM”, press and release button “B”.

  • Press button “A” to confirm appliances are off.

  • Hold button “A” until the display changes. 

  • Release button “A”. The supply will be re-connected.

How to reconnect your EDMI meter: 

You can reconnect your meter once you top up enough to bring your balance above £0. Before you reconnect, please switch off all appliances.

Electricity meter

  • Once you’ve topped up, press and hold the “OK” button to see the main menu.

  • Press and hold the “OK” button again till you reach “Prepay”.

  • Press the “OK” button to scroll through until you reach “Info-supply”.

  • Press and hold the “OK” button to view options.

  • Press and hold the “OK” button to re-enable supply.

Gas meter

  • Once you’ve topped up, you’ll see “Credit ARM” on the meter screen.

  • Press the “OK” button to enable supply.

  • You’ll see "Enabled" on the meter screen when your gas supply has been reconnected.

Pay As You Go traditional meter

And here’s how to top-up your Pay As You Go traditional meter: 

Electricity meter

  • Make sure the arrow on the top-up key is facing up.

  • Insert your top-up key into the electricity meter, and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • The new credit should show on your meter automatically.

Gas meter

  • Make sure the gold-coloured chip is facing upwards.

  • Insert your card into the gas meter and follow the instructions on the screen.

  • Press and hold the red “A” button, and the credit will appear on your meter.
