Eligibility
You need to:
- Be a current OVO customer.
- Have a Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pump from 2015 onwards connected to a MELCloud account with a wifi control adapter. This lets us make sure the heat pump is connected to the internet, so data can be sent back to Mitsubishi Electric and OVO.
- Have a smart meter that sends half-hourly readings to OVO.
Please note that the benefit is capped at 6,000 kWh a year. Check our T&Cs to see the eligibility criteria in full.
You can get Heat Pump Plus on any tariff, as long as you’re an OVO customer.
We’re proud to offer great value for heat pump customers. But our products might change in line with the energy market – or as we learn more about what our customers need and how they’re using their heat pumps.
Right now, there’s no planned end date for Heat Pump Plus. But we'll let you know in advance if the rate or add-on changes, and we'll tell you what your options are. You can find out more information in our T&Cs.

Setting up your heat pump
If you don’t have a wifi control adapter already, Mitsubishi Electric can install one for you for a cost. You can contact them on 0161 866 6064 to find out more.
Mitsubishi Electric MELCloud allows you to control your Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pump via the internet. You can find out more about installing the app and connecting it to your heat pump here.

Receiving credit
We add credit for Heat Pump Plus to your account in the first 7 working days of each month. It’ll also appear on your monthly OVO bill under Heat Pump Plus Credit.
With Heat Pump Plus, all electricity you use will first be charged at the normal unit rate you pay on your OVO plan.
At the end of the month, we work out how much energy you’ve used to power your heat pump. We’ll use this info to credit your energy account in the first 7 working days of the following month. This means your electricity rate to power your heat pump reflects the 15p per kWh rate for Heat Pump Plus.
For example:
- The Heat Pump Plus rate is 15p per kWh. And let’s say your standard electricity rate is 28p per kWh.
- We’ll credit you 13p (the difference between the Heat Pump Plus rate and your standard electricity rate) for each kWh you’ve used to power your heat pump.
And that means, if you use 300kWh powering your heat pump, you’ll get £39 in credit back on your bill.

1 Compatible with Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pumps from 2015 onwards connected to a Mitsubishi Electric MELCloud account. This lets us make sure the heat pump is connected to the internet, so data can be sent back to Mitsubishi Electric and OVO.
2 Actual sum is £229.20. When you add Heat Pump Plus to your plan, your home energy rate will stay the same, but the energy consumed by your heat pump will be charged at an effective rate of 15p per kWh (thanks to payment of your Heat Pump Plus credit).The £229.20 saving is based on an air source heat pump with a UK average Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (or efficiency rating) of 2.8 and an annual consumption of 3,644 kWh with the Heat Pump Plus add-on compared to OVO's average SVT rate of 21.29p per kWh. Actual savings will vary depending on your heat pump usage, efficiency rating and the cost per kWh of your standard home energy tariff.
3 Heat Pump Plus is a new product, and we're currently trialling compatibility with new manufacturers. Availability is currently limited to the first 100 customers with eligible Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan heat pumps who sign up. This is so we can review this add-on, and make improvements.
