What is Economy 10?
With Economy 10 you get one meter which has two rates. It's not usually suitable for homes with gas or oil, as it was designed to work with electrically heated wet radiator systems. Economy 10 can also be suitable for properties with storage heaters and direct acting heating systems (for example panel/convector heaters).
Make the most of 10 hours of cheaper, off-peak electricity as it's not just your heating and hot water that will be charged on the cheaper rate. With Economy 10, your energy will be cheaper during off-peak periods. So to get the most out of your tariff, try and shift your energy usage to your 10 off-peak hours. These 10 hours are split across the day in three periods to make it easier to use the cheaper rate.
Your cheaper, off-peak hours depend on where you live, whether you have a Pay As You Go (PAYG) meter or a credit meter, day-light saving hours and whether it’s a smart or traditional(trad) meter. Here’s a rough guide:
